A closer look at Ulric 3.0

When we first went to China for PVC we told you if we decided to do characters that had been already released in prototype form we would make some changes to make the PVC unique. Well Ulric Wolfrom is an extreme example of this.

Ulric is near and dear to my heart, he was the first character I ever created.

His sculpt however in the grand scheme of things left a lot to be desired, simply because we did him first and had no idea how far we could push the talents of Simon or the tooling/cleanup powers of Marty and True Cast.

So because of that ,when lined up with most of the other characters he is less cartoony, less detailed and sort of plain. So given the events of the comic books we had a chance to redo him.

You will notice a few changes

  • New head sculpt, more character and more in line with characters like Sheldon Sabre in terms of expression
  • New pose, designed to give the figure more “playability”
  • Comic book changes, he now wears a glove on his injured hand
  • New outfit, long pants and Wolf pullover

At C2E2 we showed off the figure itself, now this is just a a copy of the original print. As we speak True Cast Studio is cleaning it up and preparing it to send to China for PVC molding.

Once of the things we wanted to expand on was to allow for some moves, which is one of the reasons for his new stance

We are quite pleased with the work Simon has done to breath some new life into my favorite Wolf, look for Ulric Wolfrom PVC later this year as part of our next set of PVC releases!

C2E2 Coverage starts now! Big news!

We had an extraordinary time at C2E2 this past weekend, the city of Chicago welcomed us with open arms.

There were tons of cool kids who embraced our toys and we hope we see them again. There was a cake made for us by Gabriel Barragan and his wife Erika to celebrate all that has happened to our lines in the first year.

And we showed off for the very first time the sculpt of Ulric Wolfrom 3.0, we will have more in depth coverage of him coming in the next few days that explain all the differences between his prior sculpts and this one that is headed for our second series of PVC

And the biggest news of all! After a few months of conversations that Marty “THEGODBEAST” Hansen had on our behalf as a toy promoter with the owner of Rotofugi Kirby Kerr, we met at C2E2 and he has agreed to sell Mystical Warriors of the Ring in his incredible designer toy store!! For those in the designer toy industry this is huge news, it will increase our customer reach and introduce us to an entirely new audience who might not know about us 🙂 So HUGE thanks to both Marty “THEGODBEAST” Hansen for his intense behind the scenes work and to Kirby Kerr for helping us achieve one of our goals to expand our market reach!!

Never heard of Rotofugi?

Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery, established in July 2004, is located on the border of Chicago’s Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods in a beautiful vintage building. Since opening, Rotofugi has grown to become one of the world’s premier sellers of designer toys from artists all over the world. Rotofugi features a diverse selection of vinyl figures, capsule toys, plush and more from both eastern and western designers. The adjoining Rotofugi Gallery features monthly art exhibits by a range of both local and nationally known artists.

Located at 2780 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, Illinois , you can reach them at (773) 868-3308

And to top off the weekend I got to meet my idol and probably my favorite wrestler of all time, the wait was grueling (we had to wait 4 hours standing to see him) but it was well worth it and I would do it again! He was super nice even and spent some time talking to me even though I was so exhausted I probably made for a pathetic fan.

C2E2 Price List

Starting on Friday we will be at C2E2 in booth #750 as part of “The Block” being hosted by the always awesome Nerd City!

We will have our entire arsenal of sculpts past and present, the AWF title belt life sized and WIP miniature, and a host of product to introduce new fans to MWOTR!

For those coming we will have

  • Full production playmats, 10″ x 15″ , full color,  and 1/8″ thick rubber bottomed for roll up and rugged play $10.00
  • PVC 3 Packs in Pearlescent Green $9
  • PVC 3 Packs in Metallic Black (known as Gunmetal) $9
  • Generations 5″ Lion in single color $50
  • Generations 5″ Lion color separated to represent each character $100
  • Rings with our GiTD ropes $5
  • MWOTR Anthology, 65pg Trade Paperbacks $5
  • Tembo Jiwe 2.5″ Urethane Prototypes: Black to Clear Thermal Color Change, Metallic Black, and Gold $30

The Trade Paperbacks and Production Playmats will be while supplies last, if they sell out we will decide to reorder them for the TrueCast studio store.

Tembo Jiwe will be EXTREMELY limited, the lowest production run we have ever done solely due to the time and care needed to make each one (he is almost 7 parts) so once he is sold out he will not be available again till after the Convention and then only one run of figures will be made.

The Generations Lions we will have 2 full sets of color separated Lions (so 2 of each character), once they are sold out they are sold out. We have had a great many requests for them and have already sold out of Alberto once online as well as just sold out of the single colored Purple edition.

We will also be openly discussing our next series of PVC production, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me at the Con! Who knows a certain former Heavyweight Champion might make an appearance at the Con or online in his new PVC only version 😉

Minifigure scaled title belt WIP

People should know by now that the MWOTR team always has projects in motion, but certain projects take longer then others.

PVC production for example can take 3-5 months once we have all the sculpts finalized and tooled, but that does not count the time it takes to sculpt the original pieces and ready them to be sent to China (that can take 4-6 months).

We just showed off the Generations Lion’s which took from Late Oct-last week (so ~5 months) and the AWF Production Playmats which took about 2 months.

So what else have we been working on? The latest project we are excited to show off is the in scale AWF Heavyweight Championship of course 🙂

If you remember last September I showed off the life size AWF Heavyweight Title made for us by Pro-Am Belts.

AWF Heavyweight Title

We use this display piece at our conventions, but in reality it served as a starting point for our 2″ scale belt. Even though the design of the physical belt is slightly different, it helps to have an actual title plate to look at so that it sits right on the characters of different size.

Using a render from the original design , our partner Josh Edwards of  True Cast Studio was able to get the plate designed and cast. Through a process called hydro shrinking we are working towards a perfectly scaled miniature version of this belt

If you are coming to see us in Chicago in 2 weeks then you will be able to see not only the real AWF belt but you can also see the first in person look at the prototype of our belt (its about 5″ scale at the moment)!

We hope to have some more updates as it nears completion later this year and we have an interesting idea for its release that might coincide with some new characters nobody has ever seen in toy form 😉
